Monday whiskey review

Old Overholt Rye – 6.5/10

On the nose you get that classic rye spice right off the bat—cinnamon, black pepper, little bit of that dusty grain smell like an old feed room. There’s a hint of green apple in there too, just enough to keep it from feeling flat.

Take a sip and it doesn’t try to fight you. No big chest punch, no “look at me” heat. Just steady. Honest. Tastes like rye bread, a little herbal tea, and a touch of caramel trying to smooth things out but not overdoing it.

Finish is short and dry. Leaves that peppercorn heat hanging around just long enough to remind you it showed up.

This ain’t one you’re hiding in the back for after company leaves, but it also ain’t the one you’re setting out trying to impress your buddies or Jesus either.

This is a “it’s been a long damn day and I don’t feel like thinking too hard” kind of pour.

Would I share it with a friend? Yeah.

Would I share it with an enemy? Nah… it’s too good for that.

Would I keep a bottle on the shelf? Hell yes.

6.5 outta 10. Solid. Honest. Shows up, does its job, and don’t ask for applause.
